- Answer: Yes, to members

Hiding inside an iCloud Shared Photo Library works very differently from hiding in your own library.

**Short answer:** **Yes, to the other members.** Apple says that if you hide a photo in your iCloud Shared Photo Library, it **moves to the Hidden album for all participants, where they can view or stop hiding it**. Photos in your Personal Library aren't shared. To keep one private, move it to your Personal Library first, then hide it.

The answer

## Who sees a hidden Shared Library photo

- **Your Personal Library**Not visible to members
- **Hidden shared photo**In every member's Hidden album
- **Members can unhide it**For everyone
- **Memories & widget**Shared photos featured for all

Why

## Why it works this way

A Shared Library (iOS 16.1 and later) is one library for you and up to five other people. Apple's iCloud guide says a photo you hide there **moves to the Hidden album for all participants, where they can view or stop hiding it**.

Shared content is also added to everyone's memories, featured photos and Photos widget. Hiding takes it out of those, but every member can still open their own Hidden album and see it with their own passcode.

Apple lets you **move photos you contributed** back to your Personal Library. After that, the other members no longer have it, and hiding it is private to you.

By iOS version

## What changed across iOS versions

**iOS 14 and 15 have no Shared Library. Newest version first.**

| Version | Released | What you see |
| --- | --- | --- |
| iOS 26 | September 15, 2025 | Shared Library available. A hidden shared photo goes to every member's Hidden album. |
| iOS 18 | September 16, 2024 | Shared Library available. A hidden shared photo goes to every member's Hidden album. |
| iOS 17 | September 18, 2023 | Shared Library arrived in iOS 16.1. Same rule: hidden for all members, visible in their Hidden album. |
| iOS 16 | September 12, 2022 | Shared Library arrived in iOS 16.1. Same rule: hidden for all members, visible in their Hidden album. |

3 steps

## Take a photo out of the Shared Library, then hide it

1. **Open the shared photo.** In **Photos**, open the photo. Shared Library photos have a badge in the top-right corner of the thumbnail.
2. **Tap ••• › Move to Personal Library.** Tap the **More** button (•••) at the top of the screen, then **Move to Personal Library**. Apple allows this for photos **you contributed**.
3. **Now hide it.** Tap **••• › Hide** on the same photo. It goes to your own Hidden album only.

A photo another member added can't be moved to your Personal Library by you. If it is private, ask them to move it, or leave the Shared Library.

Questions

## Shared Library: questions

### If I hide a photo in a Shared Library, can others still see it?

Yes. Apple says a photo you hide in an iCloud Shared Photo Library moves to the Hidden album for all participants, and they can view it there or stop hiding it. To keep it to yourself, move it to your Personal Library first, which Apple allows for photos you added, and then hide it.

### Can Shared Library members see my Personal Library?

No. Apple says photos added to a Shared Library are separate from your personal library. Members see only what is in the Shared Library. A photo you move from your Personal Library into the Shared Library becomes visible to all of them, so check the Shared Library badge before sharing.
