# Do hidden photos show in the Photos widget?

The widget shuffles photos on your Home Screen, where anyone glancing at your phone can see them.

**Short answer:** **No.** Apple's support article says hidden photos don't appear in your library, other albums **or even the Photos widget on your Home Screen**. The widget can still show a photo you **didn't** hide, including Shared Library photos other members added. Turning off **Show Featured Content** stops featured photos in the widget too.

## Why it works this way

Apple says it directly: when you hide photos and videos they move to the Hidden album, so they don't appear in the Library, other albums **or even the Photos widget on your Home Screen**.

The widget draws on featured photos. Apple's Shared Library page says shared content is added to everyone's featured photos and Photos widget, so a photo in a Shared Library can turn up on another member's Home Screen unless it is hidden.

Who this matters for: anyone who sees your Home Screen. Parents and partners glance at it more often than they open Photos.

## Keep a private photo off the widget

1. **Hide the photo.** Open it in **Photos**, tap **••• › Hide** and confirm. It leaves the widget with the rest of your library.
2. **Hide any copies.** Check **Utilities › Duplicates** and hide each copy of the same photo.
3. **Or turn featured photos off.** Turn off **Show Featured Content** (Photos › Collections › your account on iOS 26) so the widget stops featuring photos.

### Can the Photos widget show my hidden photos?

No. Apple's support article on the Hidden album says hidden photos don't appear in your library, in other albums or in the Photos widget on your Home Screen. If a private picture shows in the widget, it is a copy you didn't hide or a photo someone added to a Shared Library.

### How do I stop the Photos widget showing private pictures?

Hide the picture and any duplicate copies, so the widget can't pick them. If you want no featured photos at all, turn off Show Featured Content: on iOS 26 it is under Photos › Collections › your account, and on iOS 18 in Settings › Apps › Photos.
