**Short answer:** With **iCloud Photos**, the Hidden album syncs to every device signed in to **your Apple Account**, and each device opens it with **its own** lock. Someone who can unlock that iPad or Mac can open it. Fix: sign the shared device out of your Apple Account, or move private photos into a **locked note with a custom password**.

## Move private photos out of iCloud Photos

1. **Put the photos in a note.** Open **Notes**, start a new note and add the photos with the camera or attachment button.
2. **Tap ••• then Lock.** In the note, tap the **More** button (•••), then **Lock**. Choose your iPhone passcode or a separate notes password (iOS 16 and later).
3. **Delete the originals.** Delete the photos from Photos, then open **Recently Deleted** and delete them there too.

### Why can my family see my hidden photos on the iPad?

Because the iPad is signed in to your Apple Account with iCloud Photos on. Apple hides photos on every synced device, but the Hidden album opens with that iPad's own Face ID, Touch ID or passcode. Anyone who can unlock the iPad can open it. Sign the iPad out of your account to stop syncing.

### Is the Hidden album shown on a Mac by default?

No. Apple says the Hidden album is off by default on a Mac. Someone has to choose View › Show Hidden Photo Album in Photos to list it in the sidebar. On macOS Ventura and later it then opens with Touch ID or the Mac login password.
