# A hidden photo still shows in my library

Apple moves a hidden photo out of everything except the Hidden album. If you still see it, one of these is why.

**Short answer:** Most often you are looking at **a second copy**: check **Collections › Utilities › Duplicates** and hide every copy. Otherwise the photo was **unhidden on another device or iCloud.com** (unhiding syncs too), the copy is in **Messages**, or this iPhone hasn't **finished syncing** with iCloud Photos yet.

## Check for copies, then hide again

1. **Open Utilities › Duplicates.** In **Photos**, tap **Collections › Utilities › Duplicates**. If the photo is listed, there is more than one copy.
2. **Look in Hidden.** Open **Hidden** under Utilities and unlock it. If the photo isn't there, it was unhidden.
3. **Hide it again.** Open the photo, tap **••• › Hide** and confirm with **Hide Photo**.

### Why is my hidden photo still showing on iPhone?

Usually because another copy exists. A duplicate or an edited copy saved as a new photo is a separate item, so it stays in your library after you hide the first one. Open Collections › Utilities › Duplicates in Photos, then hide or merge every copy of that picture.

### Can a photo unhide itself?

Not on its own. With iCloud Photos, unhiding on any device signed in to your Apple Account, or on iCloud.com, unhides it everywhere. In a Shared Library, any participant can stop hiding a shared photo. If a photo keeps returning, check who else uses your account or the Shared Library.
